North American Airports Elect Edwards as Secretary-Treasurer on 2011 Board

Date: October 07, 2010

During its Annual General Membership Business Meeting on Sept. 29, members of Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) elected David Edwards, Executive Director of Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, as Secretary-Treasurer. His term is effective immediately.

ACI-NA is an international trade association representing more than 400 airports in the United States and Canada. Its mission is to advocate policies and provide services that strengthen the ability of air carrier airports to serve their passengers, customers and communities.

Edwards has over twenty years experience in airport management with expertise in the areas of business development, properties, governmental affairs, operations, and international marketing. Immediately prior to relocating to Greenville-Spartanburg, Edwards served as the Airport Director of the Asheville Regional Airport Authority.  Under his leadership the Airport Authority successfully implemented and/or completed over $60 million in capital improvements, improved air service, including securing the airport’s first low fare carrier.

Since joining GSP International in July 2009, Edwards has help guide the Airport Commission in its efforts to secure the number one low fare carrier in the country Southwest Airlines. The airline is expected to begin service to GSP early in 2011. Responsible for the overall administration of the airport, Edwards has been instrumental in revamping a number of administrative policies and procedures, and outlining the need for the redevelopment of the existing terminal facilities to support the long-term commercial aviation needs of Upstate SC.

Other elected ACI-NA officers include:

Frank Miller – Chairman (San Antonio, TX)

Thella Bowens – First Vice Chair (San Diego, CA)

Thomas Kinton - Second Vice Chair (Boston, MA)

Other new members of the ACI-NA Board of Directors, for a 3-year term, include:

Russ Widmar (Fresno, CA)

Kim Day (Denver, CO)
John Martin (San Francisco, CA)
John Mok (Cincinnati, OH)
