If Allegiant Air decides to begin offering international flights, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport thinks it has a good shot at snagging some of that service.
GSP spokesperson Rosylin Weston said the airport has been in conversations with Allegiant about the possibility of international service.
“They’ve not made it a secret that, at some point, they are going to look at offering some international service,” Weston said.
“We are in a good position for that, should Allegiant decide that they are going to move into the international marketplace.”
Brian Davis, a spokesman for Allegiant, said he could not confirm that the airline is considering GSP for international flights.
He said any routes Allegiant intends to fly have been publicly announced and are available on their web site.
However, “we have made it clear that the airline is interested in serving flights to Mexico next year, but we have not specified any specific cities or market where those flights will operate to or from,” Davis said.
Allegiant offers flights from GSP to and from the cities it serves in Florida. Currently none of the airlines serving GSP offer international service.
But, Weston said, GSP has the infrastructure for international service.
“It would allow us to process up to 250 international passengers per hour, so we are equipped to start international service on very short notice if the need arises,” she said.
