Airport Fire Department
The Airport Fire Department opened in October 1962 as part of what was then called the Greenville-Spartanburg Jetport. The station opened with one paid firefighter, several volunteers and one pumper/crash truck.
Current staffing includes:
· 20 Certified Aircraft and Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF)
· 11 of the 20 are also Emergency Medical Technicians
Current equipment includes:
· 3 Crash Trucks
· 1 Rescue Mini/Pumper
· 1 Custom Pumper/Tanker
· 1 Heavy Rescue Service Truck
· 1 Brush Truck
We offer many services today as a progressive fire department. In addition to providing fire protection to the flying public, we also provide fire protection to the over 5 square miles of airport property, this includes all commercial structures, several major highways and some wildland areas. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Fire Department provides the following services:
· Licensed EMS First Response Provider through DHEC
· Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting
· Structural Firefighting
· Haz-Mat First Response
· Confined Space Rescue
· Auto Extrication
· Fire Prevention Inspections
The GSP International Airport Fire Department has an Index “C” Rating issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The department also holds a Class 2 ISO Rating.
